Purpose Statement
As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the holy spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
Who We Are
The St. Paul-Startown WELCA is an energetic, faithful group of women who find joy in sharing our faith and doing God's work with our hands. We support our church and our community in so many ways by visiting our homebound members, appointing our sanctuary for Christmas and Easter, attending the Annual NC Synodical Gathering plus the Spring and Fall Gatherings of ELCA Churches in Catawba County. We help coordinate our annual "Christmas in July" school tools collection which benefit 3 area elementary schools. We create student "care" packages for our college students twice a year. We volunteer at our annual Community Day and Trunk and Treat community outreach events. We have "granny" showers for soon-to-be grandmothers and retirement celebrations. From our treasury we donate to Lutheran Disaster Relief, purchase hymnals for our confirmands and donate to members memorial funds. Many members are active in Church Council and other ministry teams. Most recently, we collected handmade prayer shawls, lap robes, muffs, magazines, puzzle books ( such as word search & crossword) and brought them to our newest neighbor, Fresenius Kidney Center.
We meet on the second Monday of the month in the Church Conference Room from 6-7 PM and always welcome visitors and new members.
